About This Blog

Looking north from the terrace of On The Ave

The first post on this blog was published on the day after I arrived in Manhattan but all of the posts were written contemporaneously and left hanging around on my desktop waiting for the day I had time enough to learn how to blog. As I write this I am in a discount suite in the very serviceable On The Ave hotel on West 77th and Broadway. It’s 7am and my husband and son and the two dogs are still fast asleep, recovering from rising at 4am yesterday to hail the Manhattan skyline from the deck of the Queen Mary 2. After a year of preparations, we were sailing to our new home. London was seven days behind us. This is the story of how we got there and what happened afterwards. It’s meant to be entertaining, but I hope there will also be some nuggets of wisdom in there for anyone planning the same adventure.
